Award Nominees Hometowns-2013 Hometown Award Nomination,Award season is upon us: The 55th Grammy awards airs on Feb. 10 and the 85th Academy Awards takes place on Feb. 24, 85th academy awards nominees.

Nominees' hometowns, Adele

Adele won the 2009 Grammy for Best New Artist, and it’s been a string of accolades since then. This year, she’s nominated both for Grammy’s Best Pop Solo Performance for the track “Set Fire To The Rain  as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Skyfall,” the theme song to the latest James Bond flick. The sultry songstress and new mom hails from this UK city.

Cult fans probably love him best for his performance in Kevin Smith’s “Mallrats”  but Ben Affleck rose to national prominence when he co-wrote and starred in  “Good Will Hunting” . He’s come a long way since then, starring in and directing “Argo” , which is nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. And while many people recognize him as a Boston native, Affleck was actually born on the West Coast.

The first ever "American Idol" winner has been a pop sensation since 2002. Ten years later, Kelly Clarkson’s song “What Doesn't Kill You ” earned her Grammy nominations for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Listen to her during interviews and you’ll catch a hint of the accent her hometown state's known for.

Jessica Chastain has been busy: She’s been in 10 movies in the past two years, earning an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in “The Help” last year, and a nod this year for Best Actress for her portrayal of Maya in “Zero Dark Thirty”  this year. A West Coast girl, Chastain is actually from this northern California area, not Los Angeles.

Perhaps best known for his rom-com roles and integral part in “The Hangover,” Bradley Cooper's role as Pat in “Silver Linings Playbook”  is what finally got the actor his first Academy Award nomination. Though he doesn’t live there any longer, People’s Sexiest Man Alive of 2011 is from this Keystone State city.

Wouter De Backer is more commonly known by his stage name, Gotye — the guy behind 2012’s heartbreak hit “Somebody That I Used To Know,” up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance; the song’s record, Making Mirrors  is up for Best Alternative Music Album. And while many people know Gotye’s Australian, he was actually born in this tiny European country.

She’s played everything from an unlikely princess to a sexy superhero, and Anne Hathaway— a born-and-raised East Coaster — already has several Academy Award nominations under her belt. Her version of Fantine in “Les Miserables”  earned her a mention for Best Supporting Actress, for which she already won a Golden Globe.

The role of Jean Valjean in the oft-remade “Les Miserables” was made for Hugh Jackman, an actor well known for both his acting chops and musical bravado  and his portrayal earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. His sexy accent is a dead giveaway that he’s not from the states — he’s actually from this city, Down Under.

It’s no surprise that “Call Me Maybe” landed Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance — Carly Rae Jepsen’s breakout track was one of the biggest hits of 2012. The Canadian Idol competitor has made a name for herself in the states, but her Great White Northern hometown lies about an hour over the border.

Bradley Cooper’s “Silver Linings Playbook” co-star Jennifer Lawrence is up for her second Best Actress award — the first was for her role in this 2010 drama -- making her the youngest person to have achieved two such nominations. The talented actress, most widely recognized as the face of Katniss Everdeen in “The Hunger Games,” was born and raised in this Southern city.

Director Ang Lee is an Oscar veteran. He’s been nominated before, and he won Best Director for his work on “Brokeback Mountain,” making him the first Asian to win that award. This year, Lee is up for Best Director and Best Picture for “Life of Pi”  Lee was actually born overseas and started his career in this Asian country prior to making his movies in America.

Frank Ocean had a breakout year in 2012 with the release of his debut album, Channel Orange which earned him Grammy nods for Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist.

“Lincoln” director Steven Spielberg already has several Oscars to adorn his mantel, but his 2012 presidential drama earned 12 Academy Award nominations this year, among them Best Director and Best Picture. The accomplished film director was born in the Midwest before moving on to live in New Jersey and California.

She’s already taken home six Grammys and countless other awards but Taylor Swift is up for three more this year, including Record of the Year for “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together ”and "Safe & Sound," the song she wrote for "The Hunger Games” . The starlet often talks of her move to Nashville at age 14, but her birthplace is actually about 12 hours northeast.

Jack White is the full package: a rock star frontman, songwriter, producer, actor and now hugely successful solo artist, thanks to last year’s Blunderbuss  nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album; “Freedom at 21” is also up for Best Rock Song. White wears his hometown proud, even though it’s regularly named the most dangerous city in America.
